2016 Challenges I'm Participating In

Flights of Fantasy Reading Challengee, hosted by alexalovesbooks

Goal: read as many fantasy books as possible

I really need to step up on my fantasy game, so naturally I have to do this.

Horror Challenge, hosted by Tracy from Cornerfolds.

Goal: read as many horror books as possible.

I love horror books and I really did pretty bad last year. I hope to reach a decent amount of horror books in 2016.

Dystopia Reading Challenge, hosted by Tracy from Cornerfolds.

Goal: read as many dystopian books as possible

This is more a matter of stepping out of my comfort zone. I usually don't pick up a lot of dystopian books voluntarily, but I've coem to realize that I miss out on a lot of good reads because of this.

Book Blogger Discussion Challenge, hosted by Nicole from Feed Your Fiction Addiction & Shannon from It Starts at Midnight

Goal: post a lot discussions!

I love writing discussion posts, so doing this is a no-brainer for me.

What challenges are you participating in in 2016?

Horror Reading Challenge: Third Quarter Update

The Horror Reading Challenge is hosted by Tracy @ Cornerfolds. Goal is to read as many books of the horror genre as possible. The challenge started back in January 1st and ends on December 31st.

I'm actually quite proud of myself. I don't usually pick up many horror novels because it's really difficult to get me hooked with a good premise. I don't get scared easily and when I pick up a horror book that's only mediocre I tend to go back to other genre books for a while. The challenge is a great way to motivate myself to read and try more horror or thriller novels, even those that I usually wouldn't have picked up.

This quarter, I only read a single horror book. What happened? My TBR happened and a reading slum happened. I just didn't have any motivation to read.

Anna Dressed in Blood was destined to be not for me. The hype was just too much and I loved the premis
e too much and had too high expectations. I didn't click with the protagonist and the execution of the ghost hunter falls in love with ghost - story was very poor. I'm sad.

 Books I've read so far:

Second Quarter:
1. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Michelle Hodkin
YA / Thriller
★★☆☆☆
2. The Chase (The Forbidden Game #2) - L.J. Smith

[Challenge] Horror Reading Challenge: Second Quarter Update

The Horror Reading Challenge is hosted by Tracy @ Cornerfolds. Goal is to read as many books of the horror genre as possible. The challenge started back in January 1st and ends on December 31st.

The challenge is a great way to motivate myself to read and try more horror or thriller novels, even those that I usually wouldn't have picked up. "The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer" by Michelle Hodkin has a huge following and I was actually quite intimidated by starting this novel. My expectations were fulfilled, namely that I didn't like it at all. I didn't think it was scary, it wasn't full of plot twists, but just written in a very messy way.

Good thing I decided to continue The Forbidden Game series by L.J. Smith then, because I absolutely loved the first novel and it scared the shit out of me. The series plays with human existential fears, but it's not so scary that you might pee yourself, but only gives up a really uncomfortable and eerie vibe, which is what I absolutely love.
